Prior to the primary story, Anubis had been fighting with Phazon, attempting to control it. When he realizes that Asmodeus III is in trouble, he realizes the error of his ways and removes it from his body. About that time he encounters Zar, who had met Asmodeus earlier; Anubis determines that they need help, and returns to the YB HQ. However, Az is in more trouble than he realized and immediately leaves to help him, alone.
